You're here because you want to become an indie author but don't know where to start. Scratch that.
You don't know if it's even possible.
Can you actually make it as a self-published author? Can you live off of your writing?
Keep reading on and you'll get the answer to every one of your questions. Because at one point.
I asked them too.
The goal of this website is to break down and serve up every secret that comes with becoming a successful indie author, and I'm going to do it by journaling every step starting from the very beginning. Through blog posts, you'll see:
Get valuable writing advice that I learned along the way. I try my best to break down difficult concepts so they're easily digestible, bring to light secrets of writing that people aren't talking about, and going in-depth on structural, creative, and mechanical writing techniques to make your writing as polished as it can be.
See what steps I'm taking to make my author dreams a reality. Maybe what I did can inspire you to take action and do the same. Or maybe you can learn from my mistakes and save yourself the trouble.
Here's a fun one. Weekly check-ins are where I tell you everything I did throughout the week of my writing. You're going to hear about how much I've written, what my thoughts are while I'm writing, how (in real time) I react to discovering new writing cheat codes that accelerate my author journey. And there's also the boring administrative/logistical stuff if you're looking to get started too.
Check out my day-to-day journal where I chronicle literally everything that I do in a day. This is a very personal journal and is mostly meant to show you what goes on in my mind, what I do everyday, and, most importantly, what God has done for me during that day.
This whole experiment serves as a blueprint. This is your guide on how to make your dreams a reality. My greatest hope is that it'll serve as inspiration to those who want to make a living off of their stories.
We're all here for the same reason. There was a story that touched our hearts and we want to give back. To write a story that can replicate those same feelings in other people.
That's what I'm trying to do. And if I can take this first step, then you can too.
That's fine.
It's good to be skeptical. I have nothing to gain except money.
Which I need.
But I'm sure you have questions.
I've been researching the indie publishing scene for over a year now and it became apparent that many people don't know what they're getting into. The goal isn't to jump headfirst into the scene and see what happens. This leads to burn out and believing "you failed" when the results don't show. There are nuances that can help so many people if only they knew what to do or where to look.
Truly. I have a wealth of knowledge and wisdom stored in my head and I need somewhere to put it. I'm tired of having twenty Google Docs out just to run back and forth with all the info. So I'm dumping it here.
Slowly. Because I want it to look nice.
Unfortunately I'm not a published author yet. I have a wealth of information I want to share but haven't applied it yet.
So why bother sharing it?
Because I want to be able to help anyways. And I'm going to be applying what I know in my writing thanks to this website. It forces me to be accountable.
As for my current project, I'm writing the first draft of a YA Contemporary Fantasy novel that takes inspiration from the likes of Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Miss Peregrine's. I've proudly adopted the idea that I should write what I wished were on the shelves. It's my favorite genre with an ageless formula and yet no one is writing it. So I'll be the one to do it.
That I am just a normal writer.
The only difference that separates me from any other writer you know is that I've decided to document my step-by-step process. Otherwise I'd be another grain of sand on the beach.
I hope you don't have too high of an expectation for me or my ability, I am not a guru with financial advice nor am I a naturally talented genius.
I just want people to see that anyone can do it. Literally anyone.
So if I ever get famous. It'll be a real under dog story.
